DALLAS — A man convicted of killing a Christian preacher at his Dallas home last year was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison Wednesday.

Thomas Lee Anderson was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard H. Bemidjian, who also ordered him to pay a $10 million restitution and pay restitution to his victims, including the families of the victims.

Anderson pleaded guilty to murdering David Slater, who was a Christian minister in the community.

He was convicted last year after the trial.

In court, prosecutors said Anderson shot Slater five times in the head at his home, a small brick home in the suburban Dallas suburb of Spring.

Slater’s mother, Barbara, testified that her son was standing on the steps of the home when Anderson came in.

He said he shot him in the back of the head, and then took his gun and shot himself in the chest.

Anderson, then 22, was indicted in April on the first-degree murder charge and sentenced to 25 years for the aggravated assault charge.

Prosecutors said Anderson killed Slater because of his Christian beliefs.
