NEW YORK — It’s been a long wait for New York.
The Kings were in limbo when they were drafted in 2006, when the league was looking for a young franchise to compete with the New Jersey Devils.
The team hasn’t been in the NHL since.
But it is now playing in a new arena with a new management team, and the organization has announced it will begin playing a preseason game at Barclays Center on Sept. 16.
The Kings are expected to begin their inaugural season with the Barclays Center opener on Sept, 16.
The home opener for the NHL’s New Jersey squad is Oct. 11.
The opening night game will be played at Madison Square Garden.
The first team of the 2018-2019 season will be the Kings.
The second team will be New Jersey.
Kings forward Dylan Larkin has been a key piece for the team this season.
Larkin scored seven goals and seven assists for 16 points with two goals and two assists in 19 games.
Larkin is one of the biggest free agents in free agency and it’s unclear how he will fit in with the Kings in 2018.
Larkins contract expires in 2021-22 and there has been speculation about how much he might get for the Kings to move on from him.
